Shopping in La Paz, BCS, Mexico

Shopping in La Paz is an experience, even more so now that we have a car. It’s changed life for us completely and in a very good way.

We’ve been all over the place, shopping in different stores, looking for different produce items. As a case in point, I’m able to get half and half, along with unsweeteened yoghurt at CCC, but no other place (if you see natural yoghurt in the stores, it’s almost certainly flavored with sugar, but not so with the stuff we buy at CCC). As you can see by the video, we shop at Sam’s, Wal-Mart, CCC and Aramburo.

Sam’s is a pretty good place, reminiscent of Costco and we enjoy going there. It doesn’t have all of what we’d hope to get at a Costco, which is why we’re planning a trip to the real Costco, which is down in Cabo San Lucas, about a 2.5 hour drive from here. And Wal-Mart here is, well, a Wal-Mart. Nothing fancy. Both of these locations are near the airport, on the south side of town.

CCC is a really cool place, similar to a department store, and with a large grocery section. It’s a great place for a lot of the stuff we want. CCC is closer to the middle of La Paz on the main drag heading to the Malecon from the airport.

The place we go to the most is Aramburo, mostly because it’s in our neighborhood, only about 5 blocks away. As you can see by the video, it offers a lot of services in addition to the store. You can get tamales at the corner stand, and if you buy meat in the store, they will cook it for you. We haven’t tried out that service but mean to do so in the future.
