    Guadalajara: Central Historical District

This post is about my visit to Centro Historico, the central historical area of Guadalajara. Since I don’t know the names of any of these buildings, nor the history behind them, the images will do most of the talking for me, with the exception of the odd comment here and there.

This is where the taxi dropped me off. When I looked to the right, I saw this building.

When I looked to the left, this is what I saw.

Directly in front of me was this huge square, mostly empty.

One of the many fountains in this square.

A statue of General Hidalgo, on the northern side of the square.

One of the many covered walkways in this area. As with Tlaquepaque, huge areas of downtown are closed off to vehicular traffic, allowing people to walk where they please.

Another one of the many (and often beautiful fountains) in this area.

    One of those great opportunities.

    Another magnificent fountain.

A sculpture at the edge of downtown. As I came to the edge of downtown, I saw an overhead crosswalk that passed over the road to a square beyond, but that’s the subject of another post.
