    Even More Scams

You’re probably wondering why I’m posting so much about scams, online and off. This is because fraud is on the rise and as consumers and especially travelers, we need to be aware of those who wish to do us harm. And online, the greatest threat is identity theft.

Offline, one of the fastest growing scams is where you receive a call, puportedly from a computer service company who tells you that they’ve received information from the Microsoft computers that your system is infected and you need service to clean up your machine.

The first thing you need to know is that Microsoft doesn’t collect information in this way. Secondly, they, as an outside company, wouldn’t have access to that data. The best response – Hang Up! Links to the story on that scam and others are below, along with a section on what you can do to protect yourself.
