    Introduction

    Looking for a new relationship?

Congratulations, you’re about to embark on an exciting journey. Before you begin, it’s important to be prepared. This short guide will give you some pointers, whether you want to find someone to date or to develop a long-term relationship.

    Grooming

Much has been written on this subject and it’s worth mentioning here. Attention to grooming is very impor
tant, for both men and women, though many people ignore this. As the saying goes, “You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.”
    Here’s a short checklist:

    • Is your hair washed, combed and cut in a stylish way?

    • For men: If you have facial hair, such as a moustache or beard, is it trimmed and neat?

    • Have you had a shower before your date? Did you remember to use deodorant?

    • Have you trimmed your fingernails? Are they clean?

    • Did you brush your teeth and floss them? Did you use a mouthwash? And while we’re on the subject of your teeth, are they straight, white, close together and reasonably well-formed? Or are they crooked, brown, dingy or chipped? If you have poor teeth, consider consulting a dentist. Bad teeth suggest poor health and a lack of care about hygiene, even if it isn’t true.

    • Are you wearing clean clothes? Are the clothes new or in good condition?

    • Are your shoes/sandals in good repair and shiny or polished?

    • Are you a smoker? If so, this will limit your dating choices. Few people like the smell, the health issues or the hygiene problems (bad breath, clothes that stink of smoke, yellow teeth and fingernails and premature aging).

In the next excerpt, we’ll look what men find attractive about women and what women find attractive about men.
