Well, it’s that time of the year again, La Semana Santa and La Semana Pasqua, a.k.a. “Holy Week,” when all of Latin America is traveling. Got a favorite beach that’s nice and quiet most of the year ’round? Not this time. Chances are it will be choked with travelers from all over Mexico.

Capricho’s is one of my favorite restuarants in La Paz. It’s a classy Italian restaurant owned by Claude Vogel and his wife Celia. I met them both through my friend Dennis, who I met when I lived here last year.

Today we went to Tecolote, a beautiful, long beach about 30 minute’s drive from here. It’s a pretty decent highway and a nice drive through a wide variety of terrain. Lots of cactus, towns, small beaches, a refinery on the water, and some open plains.

Today we went off on another shopping adventure to City Club, looking for that infamous Canadian Maple syrup. City Club is at the southeast end of town, at Plaza La Paz, sometimes known as Soriana, because there’s a Soriana grocery store there.

This is a quick clip of one of the many colectivo (collective) buses that you can find in La Paz. Last winter I used them in combination with taxis. I’d walk into el centro on Aquiles Serdan (roughly 12 blocks south), then catch one of these buses going out to Wal-Mart (the fee was 8 pesos).

In La Paz, they take beach cleaning very seriously. There are gangs of men cleaning the beach of seaweed every few days, and the Malecon even has its own brand of street sweeper a.k.a. a zamboni.
