    Camping at Wal-Mart

This morning I found out that you can actually sleep in Wal-Mart parking lots and this is actively encouraged, which is a great plus for campers.

Depending on the location, they will offer electrical hookups for your car, for space heaters. In the United States, the camping option is much more prevalent. According to the man I spoke to today, camping is allowed at all the Wal-Mart locations.

Usually this is for one night at a time, not consecutive nights. If a vehicle parks for more than one night, security would take an interest. According to the rep, parking at Wal-Mart isn’t a substitute for campgrounds, but it is an option.

When you go to a Wal-Mart, you’re advised to park after hours, and around the perimeter of the parking lot. When I was there I saw several motorhomes and it was clear they were camping there.

Other resources are: Frugal RV Travel and Boondockers Welcome. The second option gives you access to free camping spots all over Canada and the United States. Note that to use this resource you’ll need to buy a membership.
