    Air Pollution & Me

I’ve learned that air pollution and me don’t get along. I knew I was sensitive to it from my layovers in Mexico City some years ago.

And while I could smell the pollution in Zapopan, I thought I could handle it. I was wrong.

After a few days, when I was out for a walk, my nose and sinuses felt like they were freezing. I thought it was an odd reaction to the cold air. In reality, I was having an allergic reaction to the air pollution.

I also kept running out of air, caused by the altitude, or so I thought. Nope. Air pollution once again, which can decrease your lung function.

The kicker was when I went for a power walk one day and by the time I got home, my lungs and throat were on fire. Unbelievable pain, which lasted for nearly an hour.

Once I found out the cause was air pollution, I bought some medicine for the allergies, popped Ibu’s 3 times a day and got a flight out as soon as I could.

It’s been 6 days since I left and I feel almost normal again. As I discovered, not only can air pollution make you sick, it can kill you.

Never again, if I can help it.
