Lunch at Americanos in La Paz, BCS, Mexico

Right next door to La Fonda is another place called: “Americanos.” The couple that run the place are almost certainly Americans, though we haven’t asked to be sure. We saw this place one day and decided to check out the menu. We liked what we saw and promised we’d come back.

Today was the day. We went there for a bit of lunch and perhaps dessert. As it turned out, we had only a main course, which was more than enough. We both had a version of a double cheeseburger. The verdict? It was good, but the atmosphere left something to be desired. Of the husband and wife that run the place, the husband plays the role of waiter and cook, not a good combination, in my opinion.

Part of the restaurant is given over to a child’s playpen and the couple have their child (we couldn’t tell if it was a boy or girl) on hand. Needless to say, there was a fair bit of screaming from the kid from time to time, which really killed the mood. Add to the fact that the wife isn’t all that friendly. To top it off, expect your meal to be served by the wife while she’s holding the baby.

Despite the downer in atmosphere, we intend to go back, possibly with ear plugs. Then again, I think we’ll just get it to go. Probably a better idea.
