Day 2 of our Baja trip. While the day dawned relatively clear, we ran into torrential rain between here and El Rosario. The rain was so bad at times that even on the high setting, it was hard to see out of the windshield. In addition, there was a lot of flooding and more than [...]

Crossing into Mexico from the San Diego/Palm Springs, there are several options. These are Tijuana, Tecate and Calexico/Mexicali. Of these, avoid Tijuana like the plague. There are many problems there and I’ve heard stories of shootings on the autopista (toll highway) south of there. We decided on Tecate because we’d been told it’s a nice crossing, which is true.

Bloody Expensive Aircard Service in the United States

Filed under: Nathan's Travel Tips; Tagged as: aircard high rates, aircards, high rates, virgin, virgin aircard, virgin modem

On this trip (2009) I went to stay with my mother for awhile. She lives in a trailer park and I knew she wasn’t online and due to the layout of the park I suspected that few, if any of the residents would have wireless. As it turns out, I was right and I bought an aircard. This is what happened…

For Batman Lovers Everywhere: Own the Vehicle of Your Dreams in Palm Springs

Filed under: Side Trips; Tagged as: auto dealership, batman, batman series, batmobile, batmobile $27000, circa 1976

I don’t know about you, but I’m a major Batman fan, even the old, campy series from way back when. When we were driving on Indian Canyon Drive in Palm Springs, Laura happened to look out the window at a car dealership. Lo and behold, she spotted the Batmobile from the original TV show. Needless [...]

Important: Using the Left Turn Signal on the Highways in Mexico

Filed under: Nathan's Travel Tips; Tagged as: hazard lights, highway driving, how to turn left off a highway in Mexico, left turn sigal, left turn signal please pass me

One thing I learned about driving on the highways in Mexico beforehand was the use of the left turn signal. If you’re on a highway in Canada or the US, a left turn signal indicates that you want to turn left. Not so in Mexico. If you do that here, it means, “I’m slow, please [...]

Reunion, Confinement, a Broken Toe and Blue Air in San Diego

Filed under: Driving the Baja California Highway; Tagged as: airport, Little Italy, pacific inn, San Diego, trattoria fantastica, waffles

After a long time apart (two months), Laura and me reunited in San Diego. It was quite emotional for both of us since we realized there was much more to our relationship than either one of us had thought. Getting back together again meant continuing where we had left off and now we could continue the process of building a life together.

The Swap Meet In Palm Springs

Filed under: Nathan's Travel Tips; Tagged as: california, college of the desert, hot sauce, kettle corn, medjool dates, palm springs, rancho mirage, swap meet

Every weekend, from 7:00am-2:00pm (until it gets too hot), is the swap meet at the College of the Desert in Rancho Mirage. As swap meets go, it looks much the same as any other. Some notable differences are the size, about 300 booths or so and it’s outside. It’s a great place to get all sorts of stuff and some of the food items were great.
