A Great Apartment in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico
Filed under: La Paz; Tagged as: La Paz, la paz apartments, la paz baja california sur, la paz departamentos, la paz mexicoNo CommentsWe’re in a bit of transition right now (yeh, I know, which one?). Seriously, we landed in La Paz a week ago and we now have a new apartment. What makes things a bit interesting is that we’re now in the building where I was living last year. We’re on the same side, just one floor down. Sweet!

Mexico is a great place to visit and to live, in my opinion, which is why I keep coming back. Still, when living here, it’s wise to observe a few precautions. One of these is keeping plenty of water on hand and staying hydrated. If not, the results could be disastrous (it’s happened to me several times).

Another F*cking Smoking Hotel (and Deception)
Filed under: Driving the Baja California Highway, Nathan's Travel Tips; Tagged as: 7 crown hotel, baja, baja california highway, baja california south, deception, La Paz, malecon, noise, non-smoking, restaurant odors, smokingNo CommentsAt the moment, we’ve parked our butts in the 7 Crown Hotel in La Paz. First off, I wouldn’t recommend this place, mostly because we got a smoking room, even after clearly asking for a non-smoking room. Still, it’s not what we got, despite what they told me at the front desk. In addition, an ashtray with matches was sitting on the nightstand.

An Experience of The Economy in Mexico As Seen in Loreto
Filed under: Driving the Baja California Highway; Tagged as: Baja California Sur, bajamar hotel, economic downturn, economic downturn mexico, el nino, loreto, mexican economy, mexicoNo CommentsThe economy in Mexico has taken a huge hit, from what I can see in Loreto. There were hardly any tourists on the street and this was on the waterfront in one of the most desireable areas of town. This place is one step away from becoming a ghost town. As a case in point, one of the high end hotels here has 49 rooms. Of those, only 3 are occupied.

The Posada De Las Flores in Loreto
Filed under: Driving the Baja California Highway; Tagged as: baja california south, loreto, posada, posada de las floresNo CommentsThis is a short excerpt on the Posada de las Flores, a hotel that’s a replica of a much older establishment. It’s beautiful here, but a word of warning, if you want to eat or stay here, make sure you have a healthy bank balance.

Day 4 of Traveling the Baja California Highway: Face Plant Time
Filed under: Driving the Baja California Highway; Tagged as: baja california, baja california highway, Baja California Sur, bajamar hotel, cactus forests, driving in mexico, loretoNo CommentsWell, today dawned with the idea of continuing our journey, but it didn’t happen. Truth was, both Laura and me were exhausted from traveling and neither one of us could muster up the energy to drive to La Paz today. So we decided to plant our butts in Loreto for awhile.
It turned out to be [...]

The Baja Cactus Hotel in El Rosario: A Truly Gorgeous Place
Filed under: Driving the Baja California Highway; Tagged as: baja cactus hotel, el rosario, mama espinoza's, torrential rainNo CommentsThrough my friend Dennis (who I met in La Paz last winter), we learned about a great restaurant and hotel in El Rosario, which we checked out online.
The hotel was amazing, one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. And the price? Only $350 pesos (about $30.00USD). A comparable room in the Victoria area would [...]
