Want to buy a digital camera? Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

1.   Consider the amount of megapixels. Generally the more megapixels you have, the better the quality of your image.  This is especially important if you want to make enlargements. 

2.   Buy a camera with an optical zoom as this produces the best picture quality.  While digital zoom is available, it reduces the size of your image (and resolution). If you want to create a digital zoom, you can easily do so after the fact using PHOTO-PAINT or Photoshop. Here, my books will be of great benefit.

3.   Make sure that the camera uses removable memory cards. You don’t want to get stuck with a fixed amount of memory.

4.   Make sure the camera has a large LCD and rangefinder option. In addition, make sure the LCD doesn’t wash out in the bright glare of sunlight.

5.   Choose a camera that uses rechargeable batteries.

6.   Consider the size of your camera and that it fits comfortably in your hands.  If it’s too small you run the risk of dropping it.

7.   Make sure your computer can match the system requirements of the camera. If in doubt, check your computer manual for more information.

8.   Consider purchasing two cameras, one a point-and-shoot that fits in your pocket, the other, a higher quality camera with interchangeable lenses and a high quality chip for studio and location photography.
