It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything, mostly due to some issues I encountered while traveling. The end result is I’m stateside, and I’m getting ready to attend a conference on Internet marketing this weekend. Last night, though, I took a time out, braved the California rush hour and drove all the way from Anaheim to Pasadena for The Pasadena Spanish Meetup, one of two that I’ve attended outside of Canada.

This is my last entry about Zacatecas and what a journey it’s been. Overall, I had a great experience here; Fernando and Blanca were wonderful hosts. This post ends with some video highlights in downtown Zacatecas.

Zacatecas is off the beaten track, so not many foreigners come here, except for special events. One thing that Zacatecas is famous for is its silver mines. At the height of New Spain, Zacatecas produced 20% of the silver that was shipped back to Spain, creating several wealthy silver barons in the area. Today, I had the opportunity to visit a silver mine, “La Mina El Eden,” (The Eden Mine). In this post, you’ll see a few photos, ending with a short section with video.

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted, partly because I’ve been traveling quite a bit and haven’t had much time to attend to my blog posts. As a result, I have a huge backlog of material. For the next little while, I’m going to concentrate on finishing my Zacatecas files, which includes many images and some video clips.

Zacatecas is an amazing place, famous not only for its architecture, but it’s art. Today, Fernando took me to El Museo Rafael Coronel. A former convent, the museum is famous for its collection of masks from all over Mexico. I estimate the number of masks here to be upwards of 5,000.

When I arrived in Zacatecas, it was late at night, around 9:00p.m. As the taxi wound its way through the streets, it passed under a series of arches which I found fascinating. Later on, I learned these arches were part of an old aqueduct system. (This post also includes a couple of video clips.)
