A Visit to Zacatecas: Part 1

Filed under: Zacatecas; Tagged as: mascaras, masks, museums, pink rock, quarried, roadside memorials, silver mines, world class art, Zacatecas

I arrived in Zacatecas at around 8:00pm on Monday and I got a taxi to take me to the hotel (La Casona De Los Vitrales). One thing that immediately impressed me was the architecture of this place. The second thing that got my attention – hardly any cobblestones at all. The next surprise was my hotel. Only one word describes it – beautiful.

On the Shores of Lake Chapala: Part 1

Filed under: Lake Chapala; Tagged as: ajijic, cobblestones, eternal spring, great climate, lago chapala, Lake Chapala, roadside memorials

The last time I went to Mexico, I’d hoped to do some traveling to several locations, but was unable to due to a project I was working on at the time. One of these was to visit Lake Chapala and some of the towns, specifically, Ajijic (ah, hee heek) and Chapala. This time, I finally made it.

Taking the Subway (and Bus) in Downtown Guadalajara

Filed under: Guadalajara; Tagged as: autobues, camiones, centro historico, el tren, Guadalajara, roadside memorials, subway, tokens

When I came out of downtown, I’d planned on taking a taxi back to my hotel. As I got closer to the area where a group of taxis were clustered, I noticed an overhead walkway that went to some sort of plaza. On the other side, I saw a subway and I decided to take a ride….

    Guadalajara: Central Historical District

Filed under: Guadalajara; Tagged as: centro historico, distrito centro historico, downtown, Guadalajara, roadside memorials

This section is about my visit to the central historical area of Guadalajara. Since I don’t know the names of any of these buildings, nor the history behind them, the images will do most of the talking for me, with the exception of the odd comment here and there.

At this insistence of my friends, I took a trip to Guadalajara, even though I’m not fond of big cities. Since I was to be there a short time, my friends recommened I visit two areas, Tlaquepaque and the central historical area of Guadalajara. This is the first of those journeys.

    Bus Trip to Guadaljara

Filed under: Guadalajara; Tagged as: bus trip, bus trip ETN, ETN, Guadalajara, roadside memorials

As mentioned in a previous post, I decided to take the ETN bus to Guadalaja. The lunch was nothing to write home about, but the bus lived up to it’s advertising. It was roomy and comfortable, easily the best bus I’d ridden on since arriving in Mexico.
