A Pelican on a rooftop in the town of Rincon de Guayabitos. For me, the Pelican is the main symbol of Mexico. When Carol introduced me to Mexico last year, we went on a city tour. At one point, three Pelicans flew in formation over our heads and our guide commented that we’d been visited by the Mexican air force. They are incredible birds and watching them fly close to the inside curl of breaking waves is breathtaking.
