A flea market in nearby La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, about 5 minutes away from Bucerias by bus.

You’re witnessing a rare moment, a friendly Mexican dog in La Cruz. Quite often these dogs bark ferociously from behind gates, especially gates where one can’t see through, scaring the bejesus out of passersby.
In one case I was walking down Lazaro Cardenas in Bucerias. I’d just rounded a corner and was passing by a gate when I heard this ferocious yapping. It scared the bejesus out of me and I nearly jumped off the sidewalk. Before I could stop myself, I turned, swept my arm down and yelled at the top of my lungs, “SILENCIO,” to the Chihuahau that was yapping at me. The dog stopped, and backed up, wide-eyed and tried another couple of exploratory yaps. I yelled, “Silencio” once again and the dog backed up quite a bit. A moment later I heard someone yell at me that I should be ashamed of myself for saying that to such a little dog.
I think not.

The inimitable Gary and Carol at an outdoor cafe on the ocean at La Cruz.

Gary and me at the same cafe in La Cruz. Pacifico, anyone?

Hock, a long-time resident of La Cruz (originally from Canada). I met him several months ago at The Bar Above.

Hock, playing before an appreciative audience in La Cruz. Unlike most dogs I’ve seen, these didn’t howl when listening to music, a testament to Hock’s playing skills, or maybe they were too baffed out from the heat. It was pretty crispy that day, close to 90 degrees with lots of humidity.

Interior hotel shot in La Cruz. Pretty, isn’t it?
